The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is a research based policy support organisation and an integral part of the European Commission. The Institute for Health and Consumer Protection (IHCP) is one of the seven Institutes of the JRC with the mission to protect the interests and health of the consumer in the framework of relevant EU legislation. In particular, the 7th Amendment (2003/15/EC) of the Cosmetics Directive (76/768/EEC) is of high priority for the IHCP. The IHCP is hosting all JRC activities on the development and validation on alternative test methods, including the management of the European Centre for Validation of Alternative Methods (ECVAM). ECVAM will bring expertise on the standardisation and quality control of various readouts as well as supervisory expertise in the test development and validation to the consortium.
